Provenance

Phipps family. Arthur Wiesenberger (1896-1970), New York, by 1954 [1]; gift to PMA, 1955. 1. A letter of December 5, 1955 from PMA paintings curator Henry Clifford to Wiesenberg (registrar file) states that the painting was loaned to the museum starting in November 1954, and notes that it formerly belonged to the Phipps family collection (possibly the art collector Ogden Phipps [1908-2002]?).
