On this dramatic black vase a pheasant perched on a rock seems to call to its mate while a single butterfly flutters above blooming peonies, magnolias, and plum blossoms. The floral patterns continue harmoniously on the curved surfaces of the neck and lid, demonstrating the masterful skill of the Chinese porcelain painter.
