Famille jaune is the name given by European collectors to Chinese wares with a yellow ground and painted motifs in green and aubergine, as seen on this vase. Each of its four sides represents one of the four seasons: peony for spring, lotus for summer, chrysanthemum for autumn, and prunus for winter.
