Bernardo Fioriti (Italian (active Rome), documented 1643–1677)
The subject of this marble bust, Gian Lorenzo Bernini (Italian, 1598-1680), was the leading sculptor-architect in Rome and one of the most famous European artists when this work was carved. Bernini and Bernardo Fioriti, who sculpted the bust, were both active at that time in projects for Pope Alexander VII and his nephew, Cardinal Flavio Chigi.
