LabelOssip Zadkine was born in Vitebsk, but worked for the vast majority of his career in Paris. Between 1910 and 1912, he lived at La Ruche, where he became close friends with a number of artists and writers, including Marc Chagall, Max Jacob, and Amedeo Modigliani. Zadkine was at the height of his celebrity in 1928, the year he made this charming sculpture of a harlequin strumming his guitar. That same year the sculptor moved into a spacious new studio on the rue d’Assas, near Montparnasse, where he would work for the rest of his career and which today houses the Zadkine Museum. |
