Schiaparelli revived the blown-back look that had been so revolutionary in 1933–34 in her summer 1949 collection, presented on February 6. The new “Hurricane” silhouette was expressed in dresses with folds that wrapped around the body, throwing the fullness to the front or to the back. The concept was also carried through in colors such as “Storm” gray and electric “Lightning” blue and in fabrics with blurred flower prints. Dilys E. Blum, from Shocking!
