Fish and Sky

1967
Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923–1997) Published by Tanglewood Press, Inc., New York Printed by Maurel Studios (Sheila Marbain), New York
This is one of ten works commissioned for a portfolio to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City. In the mid-1960s, Roy Lichtenstein explored the possibilities of printing on new materials as an alterative to paper, experimenting with clear plastic sheets and translucent Rowlux (a thick, textured plastic), and here he incorporates Vari-Vue (the trade name for the process used to create the three-dimensional fish image).
