Phenomena: Shadow Fall

1964
Paul Jenkins (American, 1923–2012)
Paul Jenkins traveled to Paris in 1953 where he developed an interest in the accidental effects of color in motion. On his return to the United States in 1956, Jenkins began to pour paint onto white primed canvas from corner to corner, directing the flow of each color by manipulating the canvas and using bladelike devices rather than brushes.
