Ecce Puer (Behold the Child)

1906-1907
Medardo Rosso (Italian, 1858–1928)
Ecce Puer, or Behold the Child, was a commissioned portrait of six-year-old Alfred William Mond. Rosso is said to have been having difficulty creating the image of the child until he caught a glimpse of the boy peeking through a curtain. The artist called this work a "vision of purity."
