Aiyanar

c. 8th century
Artist/maker unknown, Indian
Aiyanar is worshiped in southern India, where he is considered the son of Shiva and Mohini, the god Vishnu in female form. Thus, Aiyanar represents a merging of the usually separated sects focused on Shiva and Vishnu. He is identifiable by his posture, seated with his legs partially crossed and leaning his weight on one arm.
