Untitled Painting

1927
Joan Miró (Spanish, 1893–1983)
In 1927 Joan Miró created a series of paintings on unprimed canvas. In these austere compositions, executed with precise gestural virtuosity and yet seemingly spontaneous, the artist suppressed all variety of color and detail to heighten the effect of the hovering, abstract forms that are at once powerful and delicate.
