[1]. Carl Otto Kretzschmar von Kienbusch (1884-1976), New York; bequest to PMA, 1977. 1. The sale catalogue introduction states that Tolentino acquired the entire contents of the Verzuolo castle, a former property of the dukes of Savoy. According to news accounts, the current owners, who had no connection with the Savoy family, had used the collection as collateral for a loan (NY Times, February 12, 1922, p. 6). Tolentino (d. 1928), described in a 1924 American Art Galleries catalogue as "an expert antiquarian of Rome," had galleries at no. 57, Via Sistina, Rome. |
