Pierced with the coat of arms of Prince Elector Christian II of Saxony (ruled 1591 to 1611), this horse muzzle was possibly commissioned for the celebration of the marriage of his brother, Johann Georg I (ruled 1611 to 1656), on September 16, 1604, to Duchess Sibylle Elisabeth of Württemberg (1584-1606).
