Provenance

Wildenstein & Co., New York, by 1952 [1]. Mr. and Mrs. William Coxe Wright, St. David's, PA, probably by 1959, until his d. 1970 [2]; Charlotte Dorrance Wright (Mrs. William Coxe Wright) (d. 1977); bequest to PMA, 1978. 1. Wildenstein lent the painting to the exhibition at Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Museum of Cranbrook Academy of Art, "Light and the Painter," September 5-28, 1952, no. 38. 2. According to Daulte's catalogue raisonné of 1959 (no. 560), the painting was in a private collection after Wildenstein -- possibly the Wright collection. The Wrights certainly owned the painting by 1965.
