While secretly working "underground" on his final masterpiece, Étant donnés, Duchamp claimed that he had given up art for chess. Mysterious objects nevertheless emerged, hinting that the artist was indeed at work on another project. This enigmatic molded item in bronze alludes to human anatomy and offers insight into the working process involved in the making of Étant donnés.
