McCobb introduced a low-cost, modular furniture line called the "Planner Group" in Chicago in January 1950. It was an immediate success. The pieces that made up the line could be used separately or together, and included cabinets, chests of drawers, and benches that also served as coffee tables or bases for drawers. The flexibility of this furniture was well suited to the smaller, multipurpose living spaces of the new American home.
