Double Frame: Philadelphia

1965
Ray K. Metzker (American, 1931–2014)
Metzker'sDouble Frame series, produced between 1964 and 1966, calls attention to unique technical properties of 35 mm black-and-white roll film. Double Frame: Philadelphia is made of two images that appear side-by-side on a single, continuous strip of film. Metzker incorporates into the photographic print the vertical black line that normally separates one exposure from the next, treating it as a unifying element rather than a standard line of demarcation between two frames.
