Ayer's Cherry Pectoral - Cures Coughs and Colds

1898
Designed by Edward Penfield (American, 1866–1925)
In this poster a bear physician and a bear nurse look after a bear with a bad cold. The nurse holds a bottle of Ayer's Cherry Pectoral, made by J. C. Ayer & Co., one of the largest proprietary medicine firms in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The nurse's apron bears the slogan that was invariably used to advertise the company's cough mixture.
