Inkstand, with Figures of Two Fishmen in a Boat Pulling in a Net with Fish

Late 16th century
Possibly by Patanazzi family (Italian (active Urbino), active late 16th–early 17th century)
Inkstands with elaborate sculptural lids have often survived incomplete. This piece once held a third figure in the center of the boat, of which only the feet remain. If the feet were originally those of Christ, the scene depicted was the miraculous draught of fishes.
