LabelThe proud horse, with braided mane and flanks colored orange with henna, appears to prance forward on air above and around three attendants. Atop the horse sits a dignified nobleman in a type of formal equestrian portrait that is quite common in Indian painting. But this is not a generic representation, for the rider holds a long stick of flowers to show that he is a newly married man. He is probably on his way to the house of his wife's family where, after feasting, the couple will playfully hit at each other with their flower kebabs.
