"In arranging my new apartment I see your paintings again with so much pleasure.... There's such a note of truth, of real countryside in each one."
Letter to van Gogh from his brother Theo, Paris, March 16, 1889
"I've looked most attentively at your works since we parted; first at your brother's and then at the Independents exhibition. I offer you my sincere compliments, and for many artists you are the most remarkable in the exhibition. With things from nature you are the only one there who thinks."
Letter to van Gogh from artist Paul Gauguin, Paris, March 20, 1890

I loved this exhibition. It showed many beautiful paintings with nature and outside. he uses intense brush strokes in most of his paintings. I thought the exhibit was amazing. I hope to see more great artists in this museum. Thank you so much for the experience!!!!!!

The exhibition was surprisingly short, still Van Gogh had his fair share of exquisite pieces and drawings. Unfortunately, his most famous and most admired painting of all "Starry Night" wasn't included. I almost forgot about it though with his other interesting paintings. His paintings are exemplary and I'm awfully glad that the Philadelphia Museum Of Art chose this artist for the exhibit! I can't wait to see what they have coming up next!

This was an outstanding display. I could have spent hours in there. It was amazing what was shared about his life.. I will recommend it to my friends for sure.

I felt the male commentator was too pretentious from his seemingly burdened descriptions to his Masterpiece Theater voice. Aren't we in Philly?

I liked the exhibit, but I was not crazy about the older commentator's over interpretation of the paintings. I realize that he knows a lot about art history but, to me, a lot of his comments were really either obvious or contrived. What do you think?
