"In arranging my new apartment I see your paintings again with so much pleasure.... There's such a note of truth, of real countryside in each one."
Letter to van Gogh from his brother Theo, Paris, March 16, 1889
"I've looked most attentively at your works since we parted; first at your brother's and then at the Independents exhibition. I offer you my sincere compliments, and for many artists you are the most remarkable in the exhibition. With things from nature you are the only one there who thinks."
Letter to van Gogh from artist Paul Gauguin, Paris, March 20, 1890

My husband and I enjoyed this exhibite immensely. We feel very privileged to have access to such wonderful works, thanks to our excellent Philadelphia Museum of art. We were able to see pieces that we had never seen.

paintings incredible although some smothered by heavy over ornate frames. narration worthless. why a section showing photographs while noting he didn't like photography? japanese prints were nice but didn't belong

My Wife and I attended the Van Gogh exhibit and it far exceeded our expectations. Van Gogh was truly a great man. His art is just beautifull. The Museum Staff did an excellent job hosting the event. We had a great time there. I liked the interactive technology, you can go along at your own pace and you miss nothing. It was fun.

I, too, liked the exhibit very much. I found that the less well-known paintings appealed to me a great deal, and that I could much better understand what Van Gogh was creating with his art. The information on the influence of Japanese prints was very good and I was able to see that in many paintings not described in the audio. This made me much more of a Van Gogh fan. Thank you.

I've been to the VanGogh in Amersterdam and believe me when I say, "this show has as much depth as what I saw there, especially the nature studies ".

This exhibit does not show his descent into madness as portrayed in the last works of his life. I love the music under audio number 711.

This was the best birthday present I could have ever given myself and my family- I am a VanGogh fanatic and I fall in love with the paintings each time I am lucky enough to see them. I have been to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam and this was the next best thing! I will be re-reading the biographies of him again

An absolutely wonderfully absorbing exhibit. We were not really "Van Gogh" fans ...until now! WOW!
We bought the Biography and some other items to celebrate his work, the exhibit and to share with others. It highlights why we are members of the PMA.
Thank you currators.

The exhibit was really good, love Van Goghs work....saw some pieces I've never seen before....but it was crowded, I wish there were less people in the gallery, it made it difficult to view the artworks.
