"In arranging my new apartment I see your paintings again with so much pleasure.... There's such a note of truth, of real countryside in each one."
Letter to van Gogh from his brother Theo, Paris, March 16, 1889
"I've looked most attentively at your works since we parted; first at your brother's and then at the Independents exhibition. I offer you my sincere compliments, and for many artists you are the most remarkable in the exhibition. With things from nature you are the only one there who thinks."
Letter to van Gogh from artist Paul Gauguin, Paris, March 20, 1890

The exhibit was very well presented with easy to follow showrooms. The artistry was classic...it must be Van Gogh!

It is so fascinating to feel we are walking and standing with you in the deep forest. Know that you will never be alone.

very well done exhibit, really gave a sense of the man and the artist and the various forces that shaped his art. A disturbed genius who was able to express or calm his demons thru his art

The art was very moving, you could feel the aura of his mood while painting even now. To find out that his huge body of work was produced in a mere 10 years was shocking.

Absolutely breath-taking. The exhibit was one of the best I have seen at the museum. It was unique as it included some pieces I had not seen before. The narration was thoughtful and added to my enjoyment. Overall, it furthered my appreciation for one of my favorite artists.
