Visiting an exhibition in person is a much richer experience than visiting online. Why not leave a comment to share your thoughts and impressions with others?
I liked that James Castle was a recycler before recycling was invented. I especially liked the sculpure of all the stuff. I liked the armor exibit better. And the guns. Did he like pie?

I liked that James Castle used a lot of cool things to make his arttwork and it's kind of unusaul that James Castle used spit and soot to make his paintings black and white, also it was very cool to see those random letters on a sheet of paper, it was kind of like he was making his own language

i loved the exhibition of James Castle because he used the coolest things to make his artwork and because just all of the artwork he did was cool and artistic. It was also cool to learn things about james castle and learn why he did this type of artwork. it was great that he still did artwork even though he was deaf.

The exhibition is beautifully done, and perfectly complimented by the wonderful film of Castle's work which is continuously showing. Congratulations to the Foundation for Self-Taught Artists which made this possible.

Ahh! I am glad that his art work are being brought up to a museum like Philadelphia Museum of Art because people were often forget how acute visual sensibility Deaf people usually have.

Now due to his deprive-ness from any forms of communications, especially with the American Sign Language; this is not a surprise to me at all.

I am very glad that his art work are now being in exhibition.

I was unaware of Castle's work until the May 2000 show at The Drawing Center in NYC. I have been haunted by his work ever since, and will be making the trip from NY to see this show. I look forward to spending time with these incredibly personal and humble works in person.

These striking images are made all the more captivating when juxtaposed with Castle's tools (sticks, soot, chalk and the like) and his speech and writing books. What a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era.
