Location: Van Pelt Auditorium

The world of fashion is chronicled in three films, including rarely screened documentaries by the celebrated American-born French fashion photographer and filmmaker William Klein.

The Wednesday Night film series is supported by the Dean and Zoë Pappas Family Foundation.
  • Mode en France (Fashion in France) (1984)
    • Wednesday, September 24, 2014, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Essential viewing for anyone interested in fashion, William Klein’s sharp, satirical documentary presents an irreverent yet gleeful insight into high fashion in the 1980s. As a photographer for Vogue between 1955 and 1965, Klein shot some of the most iconic fashion images ever published by the magazine, focusing more on the atmosphere in the image than on the clothes.
  • In and Out of Fashion (1998)
    • Wednesday, October 1, 2014, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
This collage-like film assembles segments from William Klein’s earlier documentaries to present a cinematic retrospective of his work as a photographer and filmmaker. Klein’s studies of fashion range from rare footage of an Yves Saint Laurent runway show to black-and-white images shot backstage at Paris haute couture shows, plus musings on what we can learn by studying how even ordinary people dress.
