The Program
Park House Guides are responsible for conducting tours through Fairmount Park and its fully restored historic houses. As Museum-trained volunteers, their mission includes increasing awareness of the historical treasures of the Park Houses, educating guests about early Pennsylvania history, introducing the public to the wonderful resources of Fairmount Park, and promoting tourism and goodwill for the city of Philadelphia.
Park House Guide training is a one-year program that combines general study of seventeenth-, eighteenth-, and early nineteenth-century furniture, decorative arts, and architecture with a specialized and comprehensive emphasis on the history of Philadelphia, Fairmount Park, and the historic houses of Fairmount Park. Following their completion of the one-year program, Park House Guides maintain and expand their knowledge through a continuing education program comprised of lectures, field trips, study days, and independent research. The Requirements
Park House Guides are required to maintain Museum membership, participate in continuing education, and give a minimum number of tours each year. How to Apply
