Can I bring a piece of art to the Museum for evaluation?

The Philadelphia Museum of Art does not evaluate, authenticate, or appraise works of art. You should consult a reputable art dealer, appraiser, or auction house.

Can I have my wedding at the Museum?

Unfortunately, private social functions are not permitted at the Museum. This includes weddings, wedding receptions, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, birthday parties, etc.

How many steps are there at the East Entrance?

Actually, there are two sets of stairs leading from the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the East Entrance of the Museum.

The first stairway, leading to the Upper Terrace of the Museum from the Parkway, is comprised of 72 steps. This stairway is broken into 5 sets of 13 steps each. Each step has 12-inch treads with 6-inch risers. Each set of steps is broken by a platform which is 10 feet in depth.

The second stairway, leading from the Upper Terrace to the doorway of the Museum, is comprised of 25 steps. This stairway is broken by a platform (10 feet in depth) at the 13th step from the Terrace. Again, each step has 12-inch treads with 6-inch risers.

Can I link from your site?

How do I go about showing my art at the Museum?

The Department of Modern and Contemporary Art allows any artist to submit work for the curators to see, but artists who exhibit in the galleries are typically already well established and have been working for many years.

The Fleisher Art Memorial, however, an independent nonprofit organization administered by the Museum, is an excellent place for aspiring artists to show and sell their work. Fleisher has several juried exhibitions throughout the year, including the acclaimed Challenge series.

Where is the famous Rocky Statue?

The bronze 8-foot, 6-inch, 1,500-pound statue, originally created by sculptor Thomas Schomberg for the 1982 movie Rocky III, is located on a street-level pedestal next to the East Entrance steps.
