Prapassern Rodruanggri
"Jiew"

I think we can share and exchange feelings, opinions, and attitudes between human beings in the same culture and different cultures.
What is your name?
My name is Prapassern Rodruanggri; my nickname is "Jiew."

What do you do?
I'm a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Fine Arts, at Chiang Mai University. My major is painting.

What kind of art do you create?
I make conceptual art about humans in my society.

Where do you come from?
I come from Songkla, a town in the southern part of Thailand.

Can you tell us your background?
I was born in Bangkok and moved to Songkla with my mother and my brother, but my father still lives in Bangkok. We lived in a quiet rural area next to the sea. Our house is an old Thai style, surrounded by trees with a river nearby. We lived there for about 10 years. Finally, my parents split up and everyone moved to different places.

I moved to Haas yai, which is a tourist place. There I lived with my aunt. I studied at secondary school for about four years and then moved to Bangkok to study at the College of Fine Arts, which is situated in a rural area called Hua Ta Kae.

I loved this place. I spent my time there with lots of friends for about four years. Afterward, I moved to Chiang Mai because I enrolled at Chiang Mai University.

Nowadays, my father lives in Bangkok, my mother lives in Songkla. My brother lives in Phuket and I've lived in Chiang Mai for four years.

Now, I'm satisfied with my life, because I live in a beautiful town and I can do everything that I want to do.

Why did you become an artist?
I think art is the exit, because I have total freedom to express my ideas and feelings. And I want to communicate with people by my works.

How do you feel about traveling across the U.S.A.?
I feel excited and I think it's a good chance. I'm so lucky!

What are your expectations?
I hope to develop friendships and have a good trip.

Have you traveled before?
I always travel in Thailand from the South to the North, go to the hills, go to the islands. They're beautiful places.

What would you like to see?
I want to see many sides in America and want to know about the American way of life and their opinions.

What do you expect to learn from this trip?
I think we can share and exchange feelings, opinions, and attitudes between human beings in the same culture and different cultures.

What do you want to tell the U.S.A. students?
I would like to tell them to plant flowers and trees. Because this is good for everything.
