What is your name?
My name is Phornsawan
Nontapiia, nickname "Moo." I
am twenty years old. I was
born on 6th of October, 1975.
Where do you come from?
I come from Kalasin in the
northeast of Thailand.
Can you tell us your
background before you
came to Chiang Mai?
I was born in a farmer family on
a plateau in the northeastern
part of Thailand. I studied at
Mahasarakham University for one year. Then I resigned and applied for the Faculty
of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai, because I wanted to learn more about modern arts.
What kind of work do you do?
My work is mixed media, painting, graphics, and sculpture. This work and the other
works I did, I wanted to emphasize my feelings toward my hometown culture--a way
of life and even a train on the farmland, the depression, and the drought.
Why did you decide to become an artist?
Because I like painting, graphics, sculpture, and learning about independent lifestyles.
I always feel happy when I'm working with art.
How do you feel about traveling across the U.S.A.?
I feel excited because I will learn many things about art, culture, and environment of
the U.S.A.?
What are your expectations?
My expectation is, when I come back, I will be able to apply my own knowledge that
I get from America to do my work.
What would you like to see?
I will try to exchange ideas and culture. I would like to make an exchange about my
native culture and to learn about the nature of Native American culture.
