Subseries C. National Park Service
These records document Kimball's involvement with the National Park Service. Kimball accepted appointment to the Advisory Board of National Parks, Historic Sites, Buildings and Monuments in December of 1935 and served until June 30 of 1951, when a mandatory system of rotation retired him from service. He was appointed member of the Sub-committee on Historical Sites and Buildings at the second meeting in May of 1936. The Advisory Board, like the National Park Service's Historic American Buildings Survey, resulted from a national initiative to identify, document and preserve historical sites. The Advisory Board was charged with the specific task of, "acquiring, restoring and managing historical sites."
As a board member, Kimball attended regular meetings; reviewed and recommended buildings, sites and monuments for designation as historically significant; and suggested further preservation and/or development of sites already under the purview of the National Park Service.Arrangement
