Decorative finishes on works of art that are produced by mechanical means may be classified as having physical finishes. This section examines three traditional types of these finishing techniques.

The damascene decorative technique inlays metal into metal to create intricate designs.

False Damascene
False damascene differs from damascene in that it is not a process of inlaying metal into metal, but instead involves applying metal on top of metal.

In this process a very thin sheet of metal is applied onto objects.
