The central panel of a now dismembered altarpiece, this painting was made in Antwerp about the same time as the Morrison Triptych. Seated under a grape arbor, the Virgin and Child are surrounded by saints and angels while Joseph looks on from a landscape containing an elaborate architectural complex. The anonymous artist, who may have been a pupil of Hans Memling, is called the Master of Hoogstraeten after seven panels painted by him for the church of Saint Catherine in Hoogstraeten near Antwerp.
