Old Woman Drinking

17th century
Cornelis Dusart (Dutch (active Haarlem), 1660–1704)
The old lady in this picture pours her drink from a double-handled stoneware bottle that appears to be a Cologne piece of c. 1520–40. The depiction of a roughly 150-year-old vessel still in use suggests the durability of the medium and the value attached to such wares.
