Seven Sketches for Caricatures of an Artist at Work

1750-1770
Carlo Marchionni (Italian, 1702–1786)
Marchionni was a leading architect in Rome during the greater part of the eighteenth century. His prolific output of designs showed a range of inventions from tombs to ephemeral festive decorations, often sparkling and lively examples of the Rococo imagination. He was also a notable caricaturist, leaving at his death several volumes of caricatures, of which four are known today.
