The Pilgrim

1922
Léon Bakst (Russian, 1866–1924)
Léon Bakst (born Lev Samoilovich Rosenberg) was a celebrated stage designer. This costume design for the 1912 ballet Le Dieu Bleu (The Blue God), based on a Hindu legend, demonstrates Bakst’s talent for harmonizing fluid line with brilliantly unconventional color to transport the dancer into the magical world of the stage.
