Compote

1846
Edouard D. Honoré, Champroux, France (1824–1855) Sold by Alexander T. Stewart and Company, New York (1823–1875)

Made in France by Edouard D. Honoré, successor to Dagoty and Honoré, the dessert service for President James K. Polk displays green borders with the shield in a reserve and large, botanically accurate flowers in the center of each piece.

By 1846, Honoré, who had a showroom in Paris and a factory in Champroux, was by far the leading producer of French tableware, much of which was specifically designed for the American market.
