Arc de Triomphe

c. 1898
Pierre Bonnard (French, 1867–1947) Published by Ambroise Vollard, Paris (1867–1939)
Specially manufactured transfer papers allowed Bonnard to make the drawings for his prints in his studio, which he then sent to a professional printer to be transferred to lithographic stones. The artist often placed his transfer paper on top of a piece of cloth so that the drawing would pick up the texture of the material underneath, an effect seen here in the overcast sky.
