The Bathers (small version)

1897
Paul Cézanne (French, 1839–1906) Printed by Auguste Clot (French, 1858–1936) Published by Ambroise Vollard, Paris (1867–1939)
To make his color prints Cézanne collaborated with Auguste Clot, a professional printer who excelled in the production of color lithographs requiring separate stones for each color. Cézanne drew his image directly on a stone, which Clot printed as a black-and-white proof. Cézanne then hand-colored the proof for Clot to follow as a model when making the color stones.
