Bread Plate

Designed by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (English, 1812–1852) Made by Minton & Hollins, Stoke-on-Trent, England (1793–present)
This bread plate was made using a technique of inlaying different colored clays into the body of the form. Known as encaustic, this process was employed in the production of medieval tiles and revived in the nineteenth century.
