This chair combines macramé (a centuries-old craft) and modern technology. The soft cord-made of a synthetic fiber called aramid and a carbon core-is knotted, then impregnated with an epoxy resin and hung in a frame to harden. The resulting form is featherlight but strong enough to support a person's weight.
