Schiaparelli’s Zodiac collection for winter 1938–39 included several references to the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XV and the palace and gardens of Versailles. In this black wool evening coat, the association of Louis XV with the Sèvres porcelain factory was the inspiration behind the rococo vase-shaped pockets in the factory’s signature pink and decorated with gilt-edged pink-and-white porcelain flowers.
