This handsome plate was executed by a skilled painter familiar with the mature style of Nicola da Urbino. Recent scholarship has associated the style of painting on the plate with the work of an unidentified master called the “Painter of the Apollo Basin,” named after a piece dated 1532 in the Musei Civici, Pesaro, Italy.
