Pozzi's elegant manner, poised between the graceful Rococo and soberly classical styles of mid-eighteenth-century Rome, made him one of the more important painters of his generation. This drawing probably belonged to the group of studies of saints and angels by Pozzi, apparently for a now-lost painting celebrating a group canonization of three saints held at Saint Peter's on 29 June 1746.
