"Paint" might refer to the name of the artist's own cat. In the square at the upper left the cat appears to be stalking a figure of Santa Claus that Taylor traced from a cookie cutter. She recalled that the appliqué technique inspired her imagination and allowed for greater freedom in design than traditional piecing.
