african american art [x] african american artist [x] lithograph [x]The imagery in this print relates to a group of Keene’s paintings and drawings from the early 1990s known as the Urban Wall series. These works were made in response to the deterioration of the Philadelphia artist’s once-thriving childhood neighborhood that was increasingly plagued by crime, unemployment, and drug addiction. The words “Final Notice” included here were not intended in a negative light, but rather as a rallying cry, proclaiming a challenge to break destructive cycles and begin anew.
