Summer Landscape

15th century
Artist/maker unknown, Japanese School of Tenshō Shūbun (Japanese)
The angular brushstrokes, misty atmosphere, and the weighting of the composition to one corner reflect the conventions of Chinese Southern Song dynasty (1127–1279) landscape painting that were adopted by Japanese artists such as Shubun Tensho and his contemporaries. The scenery is not of any specific place, but an idealized vision of China.
