Arc de Triomphe
From the album Quelques aspects de la vie de Paris (Some Aspects of Life in Paris) (Paris, 1899)
Pierre Bonnard, French, 1867 - 1947. Published by Ambroise Vollard, Paris, 1867 - 1939.
Specially manufactured transfer papers allowed Bonnard to make the drawings for his prints in his studio, which he then sent to a professional printer to be transferred to lithographic stones. The artist often placed his transfer paper on top of a piece of cloth so that the drawing would pick up the texture of the material underneath, an effect seen here in the overcast sky.
