Perspective Drawing for "The Pair-Oared Shell"

1872
Thomas Eakins (American, 1844–1916)
In the second of the two perspective drawings for The Pair-Oared Shell, Eakins's concern was with precisely calculating the rowers' reflections in the water. He later wrote: "There is so much beauty in the reflections that it is generally well worth while to try to get them right."
