Woman's "Sea Fan Fantasy" Evening Dress

1947
Designed by Tina Leser (American, 1910–1986)
Philadelphia native Tina Leser incorporated exotic elements from her extensive travels into her innovative clothing, which included both dressy and casual wear. This evening gown, given to the Museum as indicative of the fashion trends of 1947, has a full skirt and fitted bodice but lacks shoulder padding. The hand-painted design—one of Leser’s hallmarks—is in underwater colors, and blue and silver sequins accent the large sea fans.
