Padmasambhava was an Indian guru who came to Tibet in the eighth century and fused Mahayana Buddhism with the native Tibetan religion, Pön, to form Lamaism. He is shown here in his domain on the rocky island of the "copper-colored mountain" that rises out of the ocean. Flanked by his two consorts and eight other aspects, he has his disciples before him.
